Hello Friends, Hello 2023

I haven’t seen many of you last few years. Since I don’t upload my whereabout on social media, I made a one page newsletter here to describe my humble life. Please write back to me to tell your life. I miss you and your story.

2022 was a spiritually adventurous year. I appreciate the challenges that help me grow to become a better, mature person.

I look forward to the day we see each other more freely. You maybe unfamiliar with what landscape architects do. And the profession is a large part of my life. Please visit my business site when you have time: norikomarshall.com

URGE

I spent many hours this year painting sky. I had an inexplicable urge to become better at it. Sky makes me feel free.

I decided that:

ART TO BE PART OF MY LIFE

After I discovered the joy of painting in Montauk, NY when I visited Dylan in May, I am committed to create art in daily basis. At provincial schools in Japan, art was taught with non-transparent watercolor and hard-to-manage oil crayons. Discovering transparent watercolor has been an endless excitement.

I decided that:

MUSIC TO BE PART OF MY LIFE

I always have loved music in my life. I practiced piano for some years when I was little. I have determined to learn music theory and concur the fear of sharps and flats. (My hair used to stand up in sight of a group of sharps and flats…)

Thanks to the immense number of instructions on Youtube, I finally started to get a grip of music theory. Well, before Youtube entered my life, I was a neanderthal!

After Bünbün barfed on the faders of my AKAI MIDI keyboard, I got a new Roland Digital Piano. Thank you, Bünbün for helping me making a decision!

FRIENDS AND FAMILY

I am so blessed to have such a wonderful family in both Japan and United States, as well as friends who I love. If you are not in the photos, please reach out with your recent photos.

MY COMMUNITY

Mosler (the condo building I live since 2014) has definitely started to form a better sense of community. The Book Club I started in the thickest of the Pandemic is thriving. We had such an enjoyable music event on the beautiful rooftop garden.

I also had an incredible summer fun on the water.

MY LIFE AS A LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT-video 1

I believe that I can bring the best of the site by understanding the place with love. I pour every cell of myself to every project that comes to me. This is a project in Kirkland. The low-maintenance, year-round, colorful plants are truly gorgeous. The water feature brings a soothing sound.

MY LIFE AS A LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT-video 2

This is a design for a courtyard in a company headquarter in Lacey, WA. The courtyard is about to complete the construction.

I am excited by the notion that the people enjoy the place for many years to come.

This is a design for a yard where it is gently devided to provide family gathering as well as more private space for the owners.

LIFE WITH CATS – Video 1

Bünbün (one with the polka dot fur) and Ziggy are my fabulous companions but their destruction continues. I finally let go of the comfy chair I loved.

LIFE WITH CATS – Video 2

Ziggy enjoying the sun in May. Everyday, I thank my luck to live with such beautiful sweet creatures. Cats and other creatures saved us humans from emotional breakdown during the Pandemics. We owe them a lot.
